We’re all about relationships; ones that start with meeting kids where they’re at, caring for them and sharing the Christian faith in simple and understandable terms… all with no strings attached.

MISSION AND VISION
Our Vision

We will glorify God by sharing Jesus Christ with the entire next generation.

We enter their world

We embody the love of Christ and initiate with all kinds of teenagers meeting them where they are because Jesus first came to us.

Adventure

We exemplify the nature of God through fun, humour and adventure.

Our Mission

We are a Christian mission loving teenagers in their world, encouraging them to know Jesus Christ.

Young Life meets kids where they are by going to their turf and loving them unconditionally, regardless of their choices about faith. Young Life leaders enter the world of teenagers in order to earn the privilege of sharing God’s love with them. We find opportunities to walk alongside kids who need safe, loving adults in their lives; we call this incarnational approach to ministry “contact work”.

Young Life does more than just “hang out” with kids. We also create opportunities for sharing the Gospel: weekly meetings called club, Bible studies called Campaigners and adventure-filled camping programs.

We are a community of believers committed to sharing the Gospel and building positive relationships with middle school (Wyldlife), high school kids (Young Life) and college students (Young Life College) in an unstable and confusing world.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Young Life do?

Since Young Life of Canada began in 1954, staff and volunteers have been leaving their adult comfort zone to meet teens “on their turf”. You will find Young Life leaders wherever kids are found: cheering in the stands at a hockey game, encouraging them in school activities, or hanging out at the nearest coffee shop or skate park . Young Life communities strive to create meaningful, mentoring relationships between leaders and teens and to create spaces where teens are listened to, and where questions of life and faith can be discussed.

What is a Relational Ministry?

Relational ministry understands the truth that the most effective way to promote radical change is through deep relationships. This type of ministry places a high priority on leaders developing meaningful friendships with kids. It is based on the Biblical model of Jesus, who chose 12 to be with Him, believing that a life-on-life is the best way to effect lasting change in another person’s life.

What is an Incarnational Ministry?

Incarnational ministry is proactive relational ministry. It is based on God’s way of doing “business” — not expecting us to understand Him or figure Him out, but rather becoming flesh and walking among us as Jesus. It is based on how Jesus lived, revealing Himself primarily out in the people’s homes, in their streets, in their fields, rather than expecting people to come to Him in the synagogue. It is based on the experience that teens listen to the reality of the Gospel from a friend, through whom they have seen the love of God “fleshed out.” The Young Life leader consistently steps outside of the teens involved in the group to initiate relationships with those outside the group. Young Life is an incarnational ministry and contact work is a way of life. In fact, building friendship with kids is the “DNA” of Young Life.

What are the Values of a Young Life leader?

In all of our Young Life communities, we seek to engage teenagers through long-term relationships, allowing room for trust and mentorship. Because every teen is unique, we have developed a variety of programs — both one on one and in groups —  to further these relationships, as well as provide unique, life-giving adventures. Even just one positive influence in a teen’s life can change their outlook for the better, and affect their decisions for the future.

Volunteer Leaders

Young Life doesn’t start with a program. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them…

…on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don’t happen overnight – they take time, patience, trust, and consistency. We believe in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically influenced when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning, and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God’s love for them, will have an impact on future decisions.

Middle school is a time when kids make important decisions about who they are and what they believe. And so WyldLife leaders seek to model and express God's love to our young friends by learning their names, hearing their stories and honoring their God-given desire for a life of fun, adventure and purpose.
